Bashir's story

Day 2: Pray for new churches

God's spirit is beginning to move among the Hazara. Pray for new churches to multiply as believers gather secretly in small house churches. Ask God to raise up leaders for the emerging Hazara church and fill them with power, boldness, wisdom and love.

Bashir's story

Bashir* praises God that, 5 years ago, Taliban drove his family from their homeland! Their Shia Islam faith makes the Hazara the despised enemy of Taliban. Their slanted eyes make them the easy target of hate crimes. When Taliban soldiers with murderous intent invaded their Hazara village, Bashir's family fled on foot through rocky, rugged mountain terrain. They arrived exhausted and hungry in a nearby country where they settled into the difficult existence of refugee camp life.

It was in this camp that Bashir met a stranger who had a kind face and a strange light of hope in his eyes. That light stirred a longing deep inside young Bashir's heart. In the night, he had a dream. A man dressed in white came to him—he had the same light in his eyes! He told Bashir that the stranger would speak the truth and Bashir should follow it.

Over the next months, Bashir heard the Good News that Jesus died so that he could have freedom from sin and death! He secretly studied a Bible in his own language at the home of the stranger. He would be killed if it were discovered that he had followed Christ. All too soon, the stranger left and took the precious Book with him.

And now, after 5 years, Bashir has returned to his homeland. He moved away from his family to another city so that he could search for a Bible to study. He is hungry to learn more about his Savior and to find fellowship with other secret believers. He knows that there are grave consequences if he is discovered. It is difficult to find a Bible, but even more
difficult to trust others with his secret.

Please pray that new believers like Bashir will find a safe place to study God's Word together.

Pray that believers will have boldness to share their faith, even though it is against the law.

Ask God to raise up leaders from among these new believers.

Ask God to pour out His Spirit on these fledgling churches and anoint them with power from on High!

Pray Ezekial 34:30-31 and II Timothy 1:7 as you pray for new believers.
